John 29th June 2020

Noticed, among Bill’s closing thoughts in his message, ”Personally, I’ve been weak on service to Christ, though not without some modest contribution (I hope)” - one of the most significant occasions of my life was bumping into him on Preston Station, one day in the mid sixties - Bill was returning from his sandwich course placement, I was on my way home from Harris College, where we’d met some time earlier and become friends. He was different. When he told me he’d committed his life to Jesus, I derided him with some sick joking response. But Bill prayed for me there and then and never gave up being my friend, getting me along to all sorts of evangelistic gatherings and giving me a Bible which I read through. When I finally came to faith, 51 years ago, Bill had played a huge part in my journey. What a wonderful life of following and serving the Lord, you helped open up for me, Bill! (Apart from also being forgiven and born anew to start with) I’m sure you’ll be finding there are many more such “modest contributions” which you’ve made during your own life and you’ll also be realizing how much our God has restored any years which the locust may have eaten. I truly thank and praise God for every remembrance of you - see you again some day (“hrrn the grrn, laddie”) John (Mac)
